Londres na tela/ London on screen

Aqui vão minhas dicas: Closer, Um Lugar Chamado Notting Hill e Simplesmente Amor. Fantásticos!!/// Some of my favorite movies have London as location. When I was living in there, sometimes I felt co-staring in the movie. Here are my tips: Closer; Notting Hill; Love Actually. So nice!

Tesco or M&S????

é o paraíso!/// If you're on vacation, spending one or two weeks in London, or just a few days, the answer is M&S! In M&S you'll find quality, delicious biscuits, nice clothes and good atmosphere. But, if you are going to London to spend months and months, the answer is easer: TESCO!!! ONE THOUSAND TIMES TESCO!!!!! Tesco is the temple of the students in London. There's Tesco Value: cheaper, vary and tastes good. It's the heaven!!!!

Metrô: o melhor amigo/ Tube: the best friend

In any big town in the world, the tube is the best friend of the weekend travellers. So, If you're living in Europe and will stay just for some months, you're probably planning one of these weekend trips, aren't you? Well, before you go, you must find a guide book and a tub map from the town. Then, you must make a list of the places you wanna visit. After that you must find on the map which tube station is closer the hotel because this station will be your starting point. Then, you just have to find the stations nearest the touristic places and organize lists: first day and second day. It's easy, you just have to organize the route. I made the list and in just few days I visited the main touristic places in Barcelona. In Paris is impossible visiting all the places in just two or three days, but if you organize your time and make the lists you can see many places as well.

Voltei!!!/ I'm Back!!!!!

Se você quiser me ouvir, é bem-vindo!//Yes, I know I've been so far from here for a long time! And many things has changed in my life, in Brazil and in the world since the last time I wrote something in this blog. After all, what can we say about Fidel Castro finally giving power up in Cuba after 49 years?!!! Gosh!!! Many people passed away, many people was born - by the way, I became AUNT ANA today!!!!! - So now I'm back to keep wrinting about what I've been learning in my trips around the world. If you wanna hear me, you're very welcome!!!

Literatura Simples para aumentar o vocabulário em Inglês/ Easy books to improve your vocabulary in English

If you are living in London you must have papers, magazines and books as your best friends. Even without money, you can have it easy because, in London, you will find lots of free magazines and newspapers at the tube stations. You can also have a free Library card. So, I made a list of "easy books" to improve your English vocabulary. Please, don't wait for fantastic literature, but just for nice stories.
BOOKS:

- P.S:I Love You - Cecelia Ahern
Review: "Devoted to her husband, Gerry, Holly has always depended on his practical advice and lists to keep her going and is lost when she loses him to brain cancer, until a package arrives containing ten envelopes filled with practical and impractical advice for carrying on her life without her beloved husband at her side. A first novel. 250,000 first printing." Nice story. It's good because we can learn about some British habtis.

- About a Boy - Nick Hornby
Review: Will Freeman is independently wealthy, scurrilous rouge who does nothing with his life, and loves it. He sees himself as an island, and believes if he cares about no one, then the better off he is. But your "perfect life" totaly change when he meet a boy called Marcus and his suicidal mother.
This book was inspiration for the movie About a Boy - starring Hug Grant (in Portuguese: Um Grande Garoto).

- Bridget Jones' Diary: WELL, IT'S BRIDGET!!!!!!!!! She is the same in Portuguese or in English, but I'd see rather the movie.

Show de bola! Well, life in Southwark can drive us on foot to other wonderful sides of London. So, I’ll give you another tip to visit nice places without spending money. From Borough Station, you must walk towards London Bridge. There, you will start a walk enjoying a view of the Thames. So, after, more or less 25 minutes walking, you‘ll see my favorite place in London: Tower Bridge!!!!! And more: you’ll see the Tower of London as well. In London, when I was feeling sad, or alone, I used to walk until Tower Bridge and spend some time there, enjoying that fantastic building and it’s three hundred years of history. I used to take a seat near the bridge, and watch the world around me. And I used to see people of differents parts of the world, tourists, always with their cameras and expressions.
It's necessary to pay to go inside the Tower of London, so, I just went in there in my last week in London. But, it was great. That place still has a hard atmosphere, even with those nice guards that always smile and take pictures with the tourists. But it’s interesting as well.
Anyway, that’s all for now!!!!

O Melhor Lugar pra se viver em Londres/ Best place to live in London: Southwark

A entrada é gratuita!!!!
I used to live in Southwark. It’s close lots of touristic places. I used to go on foot (5 minutes walking) to Borough Market on Saturdays (one of the nicest markets in London, with lots of collours and flavours!!!! And big Strawberries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
From Southwark, you can go on foot to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Tate Modern… then, cross the Millennium Bridge towards St Paul’s Cathedral (an amazing place!!!!).
From Tate Modern – if you enjoy a good walk – you can go on foot to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, enjoying the beautiful view of the river Thames. It’s more or less 30 minutes on foot… I guess… but you can enjoy the view, the people, the town!!!!!!!!! And before arrive at Big Ben you can stop at the London Aquarium (but you have to pay to go into there!). Anyway, once arriving at Big Ben, you can rest for a while, and then go on foot (5 minutes) to Westminster Abbey and take some pictures outside (to go into Westminster Abbey, you’ll have to pay - most of the time).
Well, after all this time, you’ll probably be starving!!!!! Ok, but you don’t have enough money to spend… don’t worry! In the Westminster area you can go to Tesco Express, and buy a chocolate muffin and a coke or orange juice, or some biscuits as well.
Did you think that’s all???? Well, just if you want it to be. Alternatively, from Big Ben to Trafalgar Square it’s… I guess… 20 minutes on foot… Am I right???? Yes… I think so!
Anyway, just go through Parliament Square, then Whitehall… see the monuments in honor of people that died in the World Wars… walk jut a little bit more and… Trafalgar Square!!!!! And its big lions!!!!!!!!!!!!! More pictures and pictures!!!!! Aaaaannnnnnddddddd…. behind the big lions… there are more!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can see: the National Gallery!!!!!! You can go inside for free!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s an amazing place!
Ok, at this time, you probably have spent all the morning and afternoon walking, I know. You must be tired, but remember: you’ve visited some of the most famous places in London without spending a lot of money in transport and food. I used to do that on the weekends. To come back to Southwark from Trafalgar Square, just take the bus 12 or 453. If you’d rather take tube, just take the Northern Line in Charing Cross (towards Waterloo). Well, to me it was better to take the bus, because – even living in Southwark – the nearest tub station was Borough or Elephant and Castle. Did you like this tip? Tell me!!

Muito obrigada! Thanks a lot!

Today I'd like to thank my friends for all support that they gave me after Minnie's death. After almost one month, things are better at home. People, idols, pets... everybody goes away some day... but they always leave good memories! And we keep living... till we become good memories as well! That's life!

Perdi a Minnie.
Well, Yesterday, my beloved dog died of a heart attack. Minnie was a 7-year-old and a very beautiful black and white cocker. I'm very, very sad. She wasn't just a dog. She was an angel and now she went back to the sky. So, sorry, but I cannot think in English now. But tomorrow, I'll try to translate my really blue feelings from Portuguese to English.

I'm ashamed of brazilians authorities!!!!!!

A few days ago, I wrote in this blog that I was so proud of my country. After all, Brazil was receiving the Pan American Games, a very important competition in the world. At that time I wrote: "just for 16 days people can forget a little bit all the bad things and be happy. Good luck Brazil!". Well, now I know that we cannot forget the problems, even just for 16 days!
The airplane crash in Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo, was the biggest air tragedy in the whole history of my country. People in Brazil are devastated by this airplane crash. Actualy, I'm more than devastated, I'm really upset about it!!!!!! The air crisis in Brazil started more than 10 months ago. Since September, 2006, when an other plane crash killed more then 150 people. But the government, the authorities in this country, they did nothing to change the situation!!!!! Now, more deaths - probably more than 200 deaths!!!!!
It's a complete chaos!!!! In others big cities in the country, lots of flights has been canceled or passengers have to wait hours and more hours in the airports, because there are long delays in the departures.
As I wrote here, all this problems happen at the same moment that Rio de Janeiro receives athletes from many countries in the Americas in the Pan American Games and brazilians were so happy about this big sport's celebration. I feel sorrow for the victmis' relatives, I few sorrow for my country and for all the good brazilians citizens. But I'm also ashamed of Brazilians politicians and government. Gosh! Where are we going in Brazil????? I don't know when this corruption of power will stop. The President, his Ministers... they really don't care about us!

Pan American Games 2007

Yes, I'm Brazilian and I'm so proud of my country these days, when Rio de Janeiro receive 5,662 athletes from 42 countries in the Americas. Ok, Rio still has lots of problems, but - even just for 16 days - people can forget a little bit all the bad things and be happy. Good luck Brazil!!!!!

Tá caindo um toró!/ It's raining cats and dogs!

Outras expressões engraçadas do povo de lá: "To have butterflies in your stomach". This week I had on my way home from work because heavy rain started to pour. It was such a storm in my city. So, I remember the British expression "it's raining cats and dogs" and I decided to talk about cultural expressions to my friends in Brazil. I was trying to explain the origin of it, but I found lots of explanations online. The most common one says that "in olden times the streets of British towns were so poorly constructed that many cats and dogs would drown whenever there was a storm and even that people seeing the corpses floating by would think they had fallen from the sky, like the proverbial rains of frogs"(by Michael Quinion). Anyway, I just decided to write about this and others British expressions. Actually, I've been thinking of making a list of it. That’s all for today!

Chuva e borboletas/ Rain and butterflies

Bjs!I wrote this story in 2005, during a job trip, while I was watching the death of the butterflies on the road. It was a big challenge to translate from Portuguese to English, but I think it’s not so bad. I’m waiting for Mark’s help (my teacher and friend). But I hope everybody enjoy this piece of writing. I like very much! Lots of hugs!!!

Chuva e borboletas

vidros do carro.

A chuva acabou... o vidro secou... e seguimos nossa
viagem pela longa estrada./When the weather became cloudy and the rain came up, the butterflies stopped commiting suicide by crashing into the windscreen.

I was a seven or eight-year-old child, more or less. Until that moment I was traveling, scared to death, in my seat in the car, where I was watching that silent butterfly massacre while my daddy was driving.

I was totally petrified because I couldn’t do anything to stop the butterflies’ deaths, but I was also scared because my dad just kept driving and he was so calm.

Actually, he kept driving even faster and faster, and talking about ordinary things, while those green, white, blue butterflies, were crashing into the windscreen of the car.

But, suddenly, the rain started to pour and everything changed. The car slowed down and all those butterflies vanished. My fear vanished as well and that bad feeling was replaced with an amazing show that I would never imagine in my whole life.

The water came from the sky, but it was coming up – I said coming UP- on the windscreen. How was it possible? Hundreds and hundreds of water drops were not coming down, but coming up, in a beautiful dance on the windscreen of my dad’s car. And they were fighting against the fury of the windscreen wiper because it kept trying to force them down. So, when the drops touched the windscreen they exploded like fireworks.

All those amazing scenes were happening in front of my eyes, and I was there, sitting delighted, while my dad kept driving and he didn’t notice that whole miracle of God.

Suddenly, all the things vanished. The rain stopped... the windscreen wasn’t wet anymore... and me and my dad kept going along our long journey in the world.

Minha Belém/Photos of my city

Well, bellow, you can see some photos of Belém, the city where I was born and where I'm living again, after my long holiday in London! Here, in Belém, we don't have that amazing Big Ben, but, we have something really cute and a bit similar as well.

Meus amigos estrangeiros/ My foreign friends

This little space is just to remember them: Zeina, Sara, Mark, Yuriko, Alejandra, Simon and all the people that helped me in London. They made me stronger when I needed. Some of them burst out laughing and burst into tears with me many times. Others, like my dear teacher Mark, helped me to calm down and to learn when I needed. Sara is brazilian, but she is between my foreign friends because she is still living far from Brazil, on the other side of the Ocean. All of you were and even now are really special in my life!

Londres/ London

Today i woke up missing London. I think it must be this Easter time. You know, it's holiday!!!! So, I have lots of free time, but just a few things to do. Here is the result of all this free time. Firstly , I decided to create a blog. And then, I'm here, just thinking about that lovely city that I left, but that also will stay with me forever - and beyond! A kiss to my friends in London!!!!
